Necessary Infrastructure Upgrades
Greenwich, Connecticut
Central chiller plant improvements included replacement of the water-cooled chiller, chilled pumps, and condenser water pumps. The new chiller plant design included a modular chiller and redundant pumps to ensure that facility air-conditioning can remain in operation while equipment is serviced. The existing cooling tower was retrofitted with variable frequency drives on the fan motors to reduce energy consumption. A waterside economizer heat exchanger was installed to provide free cooling on colder days without running the chiller. Enhanced particulate filtration was added to clean the cooling tower water and help prevent the growth of Legionella and other biological contaminants.
The YMCA's Olympic swimming pool received a full replacement of the pool’s dehumidification unit, modifications to existing ductwork to improve airflow and ventilation, and installation of new equipment and piping so that waste heat from the new dehumidification unit can be used to heat the pool.
All new HVAC equipment is operated by a new direct digital control building management system.
